"Children who watched more than 2 hours of screen time per day had increased issues with attention, behaviour, anxiety and depression and total behaviour problems scores compared to children who watched less than 20 minutes. Attention problems in particular were apparent in children who had over two hours of screen time each day."

"A systematic review of research on screen time in children and teenagers found adverse associations between screen time and sleep health. It also found psychological stimulation from content consumed and impacts of screen light on sleep patterns."

3. Screen time has been linked to depression
"The analysis finds a clear pattern linking screen activities with higher levels of depressive symptoms/suicide-related outcomes [suicidal ideation that is, thinking about suicide and attempts] and non-screen activities with lower levels."

4. Screen time directly impacts social skills
"The results suggest that digital screen time, even when used for social interaction, could reduce time spent developing skills in reading nonverbal cues of human emotion."

This is Why I Created The Screen Time Health Club
To Help Both Adults and Kids Make Small But Significant Changes To Live A Better Life
Life as a mum is tough, but life as a kid these days is pretty tough too. Kids these days are having to deal with so many things that our generation did not have to deal with. Things like online bullying, bombarded with social media channels PLUS access at their fingertips to advanced emotional intelligence topics like sex, gender association and so much more!
Kids are expected to grow up so quickly these days and as mums it feels like it is a never ending hamster wheel of brand new situations we need to be on top of everyday...
This is why I decided to create The Screen Time Health Club. To use my the knowledge and practical. experienceI received in my Bachelor of Occupational Therapy to help mums like you and me, helps kids like yours and mine avoid the social, emotional and physical issues as this digital generation transitions into young adults.
Many people do not know what Occupational Therapy is or how we help people in the community!
In a nut shell... Occupational Therapy as a profession is guided by a holistic approach and to provide support that looks at the whole person, not just the presenting issue. An OT considers the person's physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.
Everyday, I see children and adults who are managing physical and developmental conditions which may have been intercepted with early intervention and are struggling to live a "normal" life."
This is where I can see close links to between our children's generation of excessive screen time, device use and inactivity, and projected long term impacts into adulthood. Our children deserve a childhood of adventure, learning through play and social interactions and progressing through developmental milestones through life experiences. The good bad and the ugly, it's all growth and learning.
As parents of this technology led generation, we need to looks seriously at intervention now when are children are young. We are their role models and must take action now.
We must support our children and do what is best for their future. Devices and new technology are not going anywhere and they are not the enemy, but the shift starts with a creating a healthy balance with screen time.
Our kids CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. They need OUR HELP and honestly... Not only will this make their life easier, it will make our life easier as a parent too!

We Follow a 5 Stage Journey
Which Of These Stages Do You Think Sounds Most Like You?

Stage 1 - SURVIVOR
You are frustrated with your kids addiction with screen time. Your kids are choosing to sit inside all day instead of getting outdoors or catching up with friends in person. You feel like your family is becoming more disconnected with each day. Any hint of boredom, and your kids are looking for a screen in some form to entertain them. You are ready to take control and make a change!

Stage 2 - KICK STARTER
You can now see the short term and long term impact on your kids health, wellbeing and development. You are now starting to observe behaviours differently... are they craving attention, sleep deprived or maybe self isolating because they lack confidence to sociallise. You now have so many questions and new concerns with new knowledge, but you don't know where to start!

Stage 3 - ACCELLERATE
You are getting organised and you have a plan to overhaul screen time in your household. For the sake of your kids future, something has to give... there has to be a way to find a health balance with screens and devices. You want to reconnect with your kids and are now more motivated to make a change than ever before!

Stage 4- EMPOWERED
You've had the challenging conversations and your family is now finally on board as they too can see the benefits of reducing screen time each day! You are now starting to see positive changes with your child's interactions, behaviour and motivations to do alternative activities. They are starting to involve you in planning goals or realising dreams and aspirations. You are connecting and bonding with your kids. Screen time is no longer the first choice of activity.

Stage 5 - FREEDOM
Your family is connecting and bonding like never before. Your kids are now motivated to experience life, socialising in person more with friends and are loving spending time with you learning skills for life... beyond screens. Screen time is no longer a major issue in your day or the first choice when your kids are looking for things to do. You have achieved a healthy balance within your household and you know you have done something amazing for your kids future.
